CAVE CREEK – The Buffalo Chip’s bull riding, which has been a Friday night staple since last April, will culminate in the Cave Creek Wild West Days Bull Riding Championship in the Wagon Camp behind the Chip on Saturday, Nov. 1.

“Everybody who has been competing since April will ride in the championships,” Buffalo Chip owner Larry Wendt said, adding “There will be a lot more P.R.C.A. riders.”

A large crowd is expected Saturday for the 5 p.m. event. Wendt has been attracting crowds of 800 or better ever since he started the Friday night bull riding, which is put on by the Dirt Tour folks out of New River.

Anyone not having a clear view of the bull riding in the rodeo arena can just turn around and watch all of the live action on the 20- by 30-foot big screen. Replays are also shown.
Wendt is quick to point out the bull riding at the Wild West Days Championships should be a notch or two above the normal Friday night competitions as the champion will be awarded a special belt buckle.

There will also be bull riding at the Chip on Halloween Friday, Oct. 31. The Friday competitions take place at 8, 9:45 and 10:45 p.m.
